Obituary: Delaney, Dorothy C.

Age 85

DELANEY, Dorothy C.
(Age 85)

Dorothy passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on the evening of February 9th at the Hospice House South due to congestive heart failure.

Born on August 29th, 1930 in Spokane, she was the second of three daughters to Jim and Ruth Duchene.

She graduated from North Central High School in 1948 where she was a cheerleader and a tennis player.

She was employed by the City of Spokane, Inland Empire Paper Company, Inland Asphalt, and B-Line Transport before retiring as District Manager of Merchant Shippers.

She married Hank Harder in 1950 and together they traveled to England and Arizona while Hank was in the Air Force.

After returning to Spokane they eventually settled in Millwood to raise their three children before divorcing in 1963.

Dorothy was remarried in 1973 to John Delaney and continued living in Spokane until 1989 where upon they moved to Bayview, Idaho.

She enjoyed the peaceful serenity and fishing trips in Northern Idaho before returning to Spokane in 2006 where she resided until her death.

Dorothy’s pastimes were tennis, bowling, the Mariners, and soap operas.

But her passion was Gonzaga basketball.

She never missed watching the Zags on television.

Her highlight came when she was able to personally attend a game in the Kennel at the age of 80.

Dorothy was astute, strong willed, and feisty.

She was a devoted mother to her children and a loving presence to all who knew her.

She will be missed for her kind, compassionate, and caring spirit.

She was preceded in death by her parents Jim and Ruth; her sister Marion; her granddaughter Kristy; and her best friends Bea and Shirley Mac.

Dorothy is survived by one sister, Carol Markley of Cedar City, Utah; her three children: Cindy Roemer of Columbia Falls, Montana, Dan (Lynette) Harder and Darren (Teresa) Harder both of Spokane; six grandchildren: Ryan, Dustin, Trever, Cody, Darin, and Hannah; her close friends Carol and Pat, and of course her constant canine companion Bailey.

The family wishes to thank the Hospice House and its entire staff for the care and comfort they provided to Dorothy and those around for the duration of her stay.

We’d also like to thank Tiffany and her family for the care, concern and love you gave to Mom.

Each of you meant so much to her.

At Dorothy’s request no memorial will be held.

She has been laid to rest next to her parents at Fairmount Memorial.
