Media not obliged

Denny Soller (“Media, get behind Trump,” Nov. 21) does not understand the media’s role in a free society. The media are not obliged to “get behind” any president, especially not a person who has been as divisive and insulting as Trump has been. Soller will have to tolerate media criticism of his hero, just as I have had to endure Ramirez’ cartoons about Obama.

No, Donald Trump is not my president, but this is my country. Rush Limbaugh did not leave when Obama was re-elected, and I do not intend to leave either. As for getting behind Donald Trump, if Soller means the manner in which Trump got behind Hillary Clinton during one of the debates, I’m game for that. He will need to be watched closely and confronted regularly if we are to survive the next four years.
