WSU Cougars receive 29th-most votes in AP poll
PULLMAN – The Washington State football team received 68 votes in the 2016 preseason Associated Press Top 25 poll released Sunday morning, effectively making it the 29th-ranked team in the country.
It is the first time WSU has received votes in the preseason version of the poll since 2002. Last year the Cougars were ranked for one week, at No. 24, their first showing in the Top 25 since 2006.
The Cougars will have plenty of opportunities to raise their standing in the rankings. Week 2 opponent Boise State is ranked No. 30, receiving 49 votes. Four teams on WSU’s Pac-12 schedule are ranked in the Top 25.
WSU will begin its conference schedule with a sold-out game at home against No. 24 Oregon, and will also host No. 16 UCLA and No. 14 Washington. After playing the Ducks, the Cougars will head to Palo Alto to face No. 8 Stanford.
