Little League: Junho Jeong allowed just three hits and struck out 10 in four innings and South Korea beat Curacao 3-0 on Friday night in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania, to improve to 12-0 all-time in the Little League World Series.

The team from Seoul, South Korea, had the bases loaded with no outs in the first inning when Curacao starter Jurrangelo Cijntje switched from throwing left handed to using his right. He struck out the next two before hitting a batter to put South Korea in front 2-0.

The bases were loaded for South Korea again in the second but Curacao, from Willemstad, escaped with a strikeout and a catch in foul territory. Cijntje settled down and threw 90 pitches in 4 1/3 innings, while striking out six.

In the sixth, Jungtaek Ru sliced a RBI single to left field.

South Korea has won the LLWS championship in 1984, 1985 and 2014.

Johnston, Iowa beats Chula Vista, California: Josh Larson and Michael Siemer combined for three scoreless innings of relief to help Johnston, Iowa, beat Chula Vista, California, 5-1 in the Little League World Series.

California lost its opening-round game in the LLWS for the first time since 2002.

Siemer doubled off the wall in the third inning to score JT Garcia from first to tie it at 1-1. Iowa loaded the bases in the fourth and scored on a fielder’s choice and an errant throw for a 3-1 lead.

Garcia led off the top of the fifth with a solo home run to center field and Cade Godwin scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-1.

Nick Carlson reaches Amateur semifinals

Golf: Michigan sophomore Nick Carlson advanced to the U.S. Amateur semifinals in an unlikely hometown run at Oakland Hills in Bloomfield, Michigan.

Carlson, from Hamilton, Michigan, beat Illinois junior Dylan Meyer of Evansville, Indiana, 3 and 1, taking the lead with a birdie chip-in on the par-4 14th that he celebrated with a running, double-fist pump.

Wearing a Wolverines outfit, the 19-year-old Carlson won the par-4 15th with a birdie and ended the match with a par victory on the par-3 17th on the Donald Ross-designed South Course that Ben Hogan dubbed “The Monster” in his 1951 U.S. Open victory.

Kim shoots Wyndham record to take lead: Si Woo Kim shot a tournament-record 10-under 60 at Sedgefield in Greensboro, North Carolina, to take the second-round lead in the Wyndham Championship.

Trying to become the second player this month to break 60 on the PGA Tour, the 21 year-old South Korean player slid a 50-foot birdie putt by the right edge on his final hole – the par-4 ninth. He drove into the left rough, costing himself a clean shot at the front pin position.

Kim eagled the par-5 fifth, hitting a 347-yard drive and a 170-yard approach to 10 feet. He made the last of his 10 birdies on the par-4 eighth, holing another 10-footer. Kim played his opening nine in 6-under 29, and also birdied the par-4 second – making another 10-footer

Pogba stars as United beats Southampton

Soccer: Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored twice and Paul Pogba excelled in his first game back at Manchester United as the team’s high-profile offseason signings starred in a 2-0 win in over visiting Southampton in the Premier League.

The good times appear to be back at Old Trafford, with Ibrahimovic’s towering header in the 36th minute and penalty in the 52nd earning United a second straight victory to open the league season.

Minnesota United moving up to MLS: Minnesota United FC is moving up to Major League Soccer for the 2017 season and will play at TCF Bank Stadium until the team gets a new stadium of its own, league and team officials announced.

The team will keep its name and its loon logo.

Former UnitedHealth CEO Bill McGuire rescued Minnesota United with his purchase of the financially struggling North American Soccer League franchise in 2013. The NASL is a level below MLS, which began to eye the Twin Cities market after seeing United’s success under McGuire. MLS last year formally awarded the expansion franchise to McGuire and his group of investors.

NBA chooses New Orleans for All-Stars

NBA: A person familiar with the decision tells the Associated Press that the NBA has decided to hold the 2017 All-Star Game in New Orleans.

The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the decision hasn’t been announced. New Orleans replaces Charlotte, which was set to host the game until the NBA decided last month that it wouldn’t hold its marquee, midseason event in North Carolina because of a state law that limits anti-discrimination protections for lesbian, gay and transgender people.

Flames’ Monahan gets 7-year extension

nhl: Calgary Flames forward Sean Monahan signed a seven-year contract extension worth a reported $44.6 million.

“I don’t want to play anywhere else,” Monahan said. “I would sign as long as I could and I think we found seven years fits.”

The former sixth overall pick has quickly established himself as a two-way force for the Flames, an impact performer almost from the day he entered the NHL as an 18 year old in 2013.

Jason Huston, who volunteered along with Valdez as a wrestling coach at Hermiston High School and was also 45, was found dead in the bedroom from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Umatilla County Sheriff, Terry Rowan said that he doesn’t have a motive for the slaying and “would hate to even speculate.”
