Obituary: Hooper, Patricia A.
Age 91
Passed from this world to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 10, 2016 at the age of 91.
She was born February 3, 1925 in Valley, Washington, to James Anthony and Mary Ann Raftis.
She grew up in Valley and Chewelah with seven siblings: Kathleen Deininger, M. Eileen Riley, James P. Raftis, Joseph Raftis, Margaret Henriksen, Rosemary Leonard, and Ellen Kinzer, all of whom, and their spouses, have predeceased her.
Tiz, as she was known by many, had a long, wonderful life and kept her sense of humor to the end!
After graduating from Jenkins High School in Chewelah, WA, she followed her older sister to Spokane to work to help the war effort as WWII had begun.
After the war, she eventually followed in her father’s footsteps by working in the banking industry and enjoyed an active social life with her many siblings and friends.
It was on a snow skiing adventure to Red Mountain in Rossland, BC that she met her future husband, Robert Eugene Hooper, whom she married on August 27, 1955.
They had three children and resided in North Spokane.
She was proud to be one of few working mothers of her time.
After many years working for various banks in the Spokane area, she went to work with her sister and brother-in-law at Able Personnel in Spokane where she stayed until she retired.
She loved telling stories about her childhood with family always the centerpiece.
She spoke often of snow and water skiing adventures at local ski resorts and at Loon Lake, where many happy memories have been made, first at her parents’ cabin and later with those siblings who acquired cabins of their own.
She truly loved her family and enjoyed being a favorite aunt to many of her nieces and nephews, and she absolutely delighted in her grandchildren.
Her dear husband, Robert Eugene, predeceased her in 2004.
She is survived by her son, Robert A. Hooper and wife, Diane; daughter Loretta Lanzendorfer and husband, Rolf; son, Terry E. Hooper and wife, Angie; her beloved grandchildren: Shannon, Amanda, Amy, Joshua, Emily and Kayla; many nieces and nephews; and her sister-in-law, Clareen Hooper.
Funeral Mass will be said by her nephew, Fr.
Sean Raftis, SJ, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Monday, April 18 at noon, at 515 W. St. Thomas More Way, in Spokane with reception immediately following at the church and inurnment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Dawn and the team at A Peaceful Place and also Mariah, Sonia, Alisan, Audrey, Irina and the Horizon Hospice team for providing a high standard of loving care.
Patricia (Tiz) will be greatly missed!
