Obituary: Ensor, Laurence
Age 86
Laurence Eugene Ensor was born in Spokane, Washington on September 8, 1929.
He lived with his parents, Sam and Frances (Norton) Ensor and his three siblings, Edward, Shirley and David, on a farm near Mondovi, Washington.
At the age of five he contracted Rheumatic Fever, which damaged one of his heart valves and later caused the need for two consecutive mitral valve replacements.
He attended first and second grade at the Mondovi one room school house, riding a horse to and from school with his brother, Ed.
They then were transferred to Reardan where Laurence attended elementary and high school from 1937 until he graduated in 1947.
Laurence attended one year at Seattle Pacific College.
He was a member of the Air National Guard and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
He was stationed in Texas and California.
He was honorably discharged when the war came to an end.
He married Jeanette Hamblin in 1953.
They had three children, Leslie (Karen) Ensor, Ronald Sr (Dawn) Ensor of Davenport, Washington, and Laura Holven of Spokane, Washington.
He married Margaret (Stuhlmiller) Tibbetts in 1962 and became the adoptive father of her two daughters, Gayle Warner, Spokane Valley, and Cheryl (Bob) Capoocia, Lakeside, California.
They had one son, Steve (Kim) Ensor of San Diego, California.
In addition to his wife and children, Laurence is survived by 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren (with 2 on the way).
He also survived by his two brothers Edward (Doris) Ensor and David (Sally) Ensor; and his sister Shirley (Bob) Staib; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was a farmer all his life, beginning as a tractor driver, pulling the combine during harvest at the age of 12.
He raised grain on farms at Mondovi, Rocklyn, and Trinidad, Washington.
He also raised cattle for many years.
He was a member of Wilson Grange and he was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Davenport, where he was a church council member for 20 years and sang in the choir for 40 years.
He retired due to his illness in 2013.
Celebration of Life Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Zion Lutheran Church, Davenport, WA with Pastor Jim Stern, officiating.
Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or the Lincoln Hospital foundation.
