Obituary: Cook, Jon Douglas “J.D.”

Age 51

COOK, Jon Douglas “J.D.”

(Age 51) Beloved Son, Brother, Friend Born 8-13-64 ~ Died 10-16-15 at his home in Covington, LA.

Jon was born in South Bend, IN to mother Dianne L. Cook and father Thomas L. Cook.

He lived in several states, as his parents changed residences, but grew up mostly in Ventura County, CA and Spokane, WA.

He attended Camarillo, Oxnard, and Ventura, CA public schools, Spokane public schools and graduated from Ferris High School.

Jon was a charismatic character and life was never boring when he was around.

He loved working hard and making a difference for people he knew, particularly in the building trades.

He expressed a very strong “do it yourself” ethos which he lived uncompromisingly until the end of his life.

A voracious reader and seeker of knowledge all his life, he wasn’t shy about sharing his strong opinions, and would often initiate spirited debates simply for fun.

He had a keen, smart sense of humor and loved to crack everyone up with his terrific laugh while musing upon the absurdities of life.

His many friends were always struck by his extreme generosity and giving nature.

He cared very little for material possessions, but valued family and friends deeply.

He fit to a “T” his “Leo the Lion” sun sign.

He is remembered with love by his mother Dianne Cook of Spokane, WA; father Tom Cook (Toni) of Spokane Valley, WA; three brothers and a sister, Jay (Mira) Cook of Camarillo, CA, Joel (Carrie) Cook of Post Falls, ID, Joshua Cook of Yakima, WA and Julie Cook (Bill) Gadau of Spokane, WA.

Also surviving are loving former wife Sandra Cook (Seattle, WA); two uncles and two aunts, two cousins, one niece and three nephews.

A memorial service for immediate family will be held in Spokane at a later date.

A gathering for friends in Louisiana will be held in Covington on November 13, 2015.

Memorial gifts could be made in Jon’s name to SpokAnimal or SCRAPS.

“Family and friends know the world to be just a little more drab, humorless and cold, now that our beloved Jon is gone.”
