Obituary: Lanning, Robert Bruce
Bob was born to Kenneth and Myrtle Lanning on May 26, 1944.
Three years later, Bob got to deal with his tag-along sister, Carolyn, that’s me.
Bob is survived by cousins, nieces and nephews throughout the US.
His only brother, Ed, passed away last December in Iowa.
Anyway, Bob graduated from Lewis and Clark HS in ‘62 then went on to the UW and EWU.
He took some time out for Uncle Sam in the Air Force then returned to college, earning a degree in Parks and Recreation.
His first job was at the Dade County Parks and Rec.
Dept.
Bob enjoyed living in Florida and never left.
He appreciated his life there.
Overall, Bob had three major loves: His wife, Linda, who passed away in 2008, his beloved dachshund, Speedy and his Harley.
Bob and Speedy rode that Harley all over the US.
Speedy now has a loving home with Jackie, Bob’s fabulous caregiver.
He also deeply missed his childhood buddy, Bill Lufkin, who has also passed away.
On my monthly trips to see Bob, he always made sure I knew he was wearing some of Bill’s T-shirts.
So, Bob lived the life he chose and desired.
He said, near the end, “I always liked coming home, puttering in the yard, loving Speedy and planning our next trip on the Harley.”
A memorial service will be held in Panama City, Florida.
Meanwhile, the Kootenai County Humane Society would surely welcome any donations.
