Obituary: Stookey, Patricia “Patty”

Age 95

STOOKEY, Patricia “Patty” (Age 95) Patty passed away on September 28, surrounded by her children.

Patty was born on January 30, 1920 to James and Zena Gorman.

She spent her early years living on Sharp Avenue with her brothers and sister.

She loved to sing and dance.

She graduated from Marycliff, where she met many lifelong friends.

After graduating, she and her sister Jinny started working as conductorettes for Greyhound Bus Lines.

She met and married Bob Stookey, and they had six children.

She was a long time member of St. Francis Xavier Church and her faith was something that was very important to her.

She often spoke of how lucky she was to be Catholic.

Patty loved coffee, solitaire and a crossword puzzle in the morning.

She would burst into song if the mood struck, loved football “Notre Dame in particular”.

Patty held a variety of jobs over the years and decided to retire at age 62.

This allowed her to fully immerse herself in her greatest job of being Grandma to 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

They all have special memories of a woman who loved deeply and expressed easily.

A hugger and a kisser, always signing cards and letters with X’s and O’s and stuffed with a little cash.

She might have been a lot of things to many people but she was best at being Grandma Patty.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, sister and her oldest son, Pat.

She is survived by her children Ray (Sue), Nancy (Al) Swanson, Jim (Marlene), Laurel Poffenroth and Chris (Neil) LeGrant and all those beautiful grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

“To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die”.
