Obituary: Meyer, Edna M.

Age 96

MEYER, Edna M. Passed away peacefully on October 27, 2015, at the Riverview Care Center in Spokane, Washington.

She was born on May 19, 1919, in Metaline Falls, WA, to Elizabeth and William Hepburn.

She joined two brothers, Denny and Milo, plus a big sister Linabelle who had the responsibility for giving her a name.

Edna graduated from Metaline Falls High School and attended Eastern Washington College.

During World War II, she served as a WAVE with the hospital corps in the U.S. Navy.

After the war, she married Metaline Falls resident, John (Jack) Meyer, who had served in the U.S. Air Force in England.

The couple lived in Metaline Falls briefly before moving with their young son, John, to Spokane in 1952.

She loved her Cannon Hill Neighborhood.

She was the proud organizer of parades and plays that involved the children of the neighborhood and her visiting grandchildren during holidays and summers.

She was a 30-year volunteer with the Deaconess Hospital Auxiliary and an active member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, and her brothers and sister.

She is survived by her son John (Maggie) of Lacey and her grandsons, Rick of Lacey, and Reed (Michelle) of North Bend.

She also was delighted by her three great-granddaughters, Natalie, Brooke, and Cassidy.

She also leaves behind her niece, Kitty Griffin (Hillis) of Benicia, CA, nephew David Hepburn (Jane) of Post Falls, and grandnephew Mark Rahner of Seattle.

She will be remembered by her family as an independent, loving and resourceful woman.

A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 318 S. Cedar Street, Spokane WA 99201, on Saturday, November 28, at 1:00 pm.
