Obituary: Treloar, Dr. Richard Paul

Age 71

TRELOAR, Dr. Richard Paul (Age 71) Doctor Richard Paul Treloar passed away peacefully on the evening of November 16th, 2015 after a hard fought battle with acute pulmonary fibrosis.

He was one of the good ones.

Born November 13th, 1944 in Kalispell, Montana, he moved to Los Angeles at a young age where he attended Loyola Marymount College and UC-Irvine Medical School.

While there he met the love of his life Carolyn, to whom he was married for 46 adventurous, fun filled years.

Dick’s medical career took them to a year long internship at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.

He met many life-long friends during this time.

Their next stop was Detroit in the early 70’s to complete his orthopaedics residency at Henry Ford Hospital and then on to Landstuhl, Germany as a Major in the U.S Army for three years.

Dick and Carolyn returned to Spokane where, with Dr. Bill Brownlee, he began his life-long practice at Northwest Orthopaedic Specialty Clinic.

He was certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and served as a member of several orthopaedic societies, including Spokane County Medical Society, Spokane Surgical Society, and the Washington State Medical Association.

Dick was one of the lucky ones, as evidenced by the enduring joy he took in his work.

He enjoyed meeting patients, fixing people, and joking with hospital staff almost as much as golf, hunting and spending time with his family.

There are too many great partners and medical staff who worked with him every day through the years to name here.

He was also very active within the Gonzaga Prep community, acting as team doctor for the football team for many years telling all the young football players to quit being wussies.

Dad truly loved and participated in, an unusually long list of recreational activities; in all of his endeavors, he was very active up to the end.

Top among his favorites were golf, fly fishing, hunting, and tooling around his cabin on Flathead Lake.

He was a great dad to Susanne, Mike, Allyson, and Tom, and a wonderful father-in-law to Rocco, Allison, Matt, and Katey.

He was also a heck of a grandpa to Joey, Tommy, Lauren, Abbie, Sammy, Charley, Henry, Jackie, and Bruce (and someday Johnny).

We are all going to miss him very much, but take comfort in knowing his heaven is a fairway lined with Bud Light Limes and a White Elephant store next to the green.

Dick’s family would like to give a special thank you to all the doctors and nurses who were with Dad these last few weeks.

He specifically mentioned the outstanding care and comfort he received from all of you.

We love you Dad.

Carolyn, Susanne, Mike, Allyson, and Tom.

The Vigil will be held Monday November 23, 2015 at 7:00pm at the Gonzaga Prep Chapel.

The Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday November 24, 2015 at 10:00am at St. Aloysius Church.

In lieu of flowers Dad would appreciate a donation to Gonzaga Prep Fair Share, the Gonzaga Prep Football team, and the Gonzaga Prep basketball team.
