Obituary: Duncan, William Nelson “Bill”
Age 88
He was born August 11, 1926 at Farmington, WA, to Joseph Henry and Genevieve (Nelson) Duncan.
He grew up in Farmington with one brother and two sisters.
He attended Farmington Schools and graduated from high school there.
Bill then attended Washington State University for one year.
In September of 1950, he entered the United States Army where he served for two years.
He was discharged in 1952 as a Sergeant.
Bill returned to Farmington where he started farming with his uncle, Joseph Lennon.
Bill married Claudia Rambo and the couple made their home in the Rock Creek Valley near Worley, ID, where they farmed and raised their family of four children.
The couple later divorced.
In June of 1973, Bill married Joyce ‘Joy’ Trescott Towne and he added two children to his family.
His family moved to the Idaho Road farm in the Cove District north of Tekoa.
He continued to farm in the Rock Creek Area and Cove District.
Mr. Duncan took pride in his farm, his John Deere equipment, and his family and friends.
He had the gift of conversation where ever he went.
He and Joyce loved to travel the United States in their motor home, and spent winters in Yuma, Arizona.
While in Tekoa, he supervised the family farming operation and enjoyed watching kids and grandkids in their activities.
His wife Joy passed away in 2009.
He has made his home at the Tekoa Care Center for the past five years.
He was a member of the Fairfield Presbyterian Church, the American Legion, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge which he originally joined while in Farmington.
For special occasions, Bill enjoyed having pig roasts on his home made pit.
Survivors include his children: Debbie (Jerry) Harp of Tekoa, Randy Duncan of Tekoa, David Duncan of Worley, Lori (Don) Hay of Tekoa, and Pat Duncan of Tekoa; 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters, Joan Kinard of Portland, OR and Margaret (Bill) Van Natter of Bothell, WA.
He was preceded in death by his wife Joy, his son Dennis, a brother Robert, and a grandson Brandon Hay.
A graveside Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pines Cemetery in Spokane Valley, WA.
Pastor Paul Anderson will officiate at the service.
Memorial gifts may be given to the Presbyterian Church in Fairfield.
