Obituary: Fike, Richard “Dick”
Dick was born, June 24, 1928 in Kamiah, Idaho to Clyde and Esther Fike.
He married his high school sweetheart, Monna Bailey in 1949.
Dick began his teaching career in 1950 at Winthrop, WA, teaching 8th grade and coaching football, basketball and baseball.
The next year he and Monna moved to Nezperce, Idaho where he taught and again coached all the available sports.
Eventually, he moved into the role of superintendent, a position he held until 1965.
That same year they moved to St. John, WA where he served as high school principal, counselor and athletic director.
Dick represented St. John High School until his retirement in 1988.
In all, he devoted a remarkable 38 continuous years to his love of education, athletics and hundreds of students.
He was proudly inducted into the Washington Secondary School Athletic Administrators Association Hall of Fame in 1996.
Dick and Monna spent many happy retirement years at their cherished and well-cared-for Roar Creek Cabin on the Selway River in Idaho.
After 55 years of marriage, Monna passed away in 2004.
In his later years, he met a great lady named Phyllis Heter.
She re-lit the fire in his heart and provided support and companionship for many years.
He leaves many loved ones behind to remember his life, including his children Rick Fike (Dana), Christine Kearns (William), Sherman Fike, sister Judy Fike Mercer (Fred), 7 grand- children, 7.5 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
There are no services per his request.
A Celebration of Life will be held at their beloved Roar Creek Cabin on the Selway River in Idaho, for friends and family in June with details to follow.
