Obituary: Weitman, Harold Newton “Hal”, Jr.
Age 78
Hal was born in Spokane, WA on March 12, 1936, the oldest child of Harold Newton and Margaret Theodora (Kenny) Weitman.
He grew up in Colfax, WA where he attended both Martha Washington and Hamilton grade schools and graduated from Colfax High School in 1954.
He attended Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho for two years.
In 1958, he volunteered for the draft in the United States Army where he spent two years in Germany.
He married Ethelwyn Joy Babb in 1960, in Palouse, WA.
Two sons were born to that union.
He spent the next 41 years as a truck driver.
He founded his own trucking company in 1991, and transported manufactured goods into and out of all of the lower 48 states.
He retired in 2001.
He is survived by his wife Joy, sons Dennis (Michelle) and Dan (Heather), granddaughters, Rebekka and Jessicca Weitman, and Kelsey (Jordan) Allen, all of Spokane.
He is also survived by sister, Louise Ackley and niece Barbara Ackley of Boise, ID and nephew Douglas Ackley, currently teaching in Abu Dhabi (UAE).
He was a lifetime member of Owner Operator Independent Driver’s Association (OOIDA) and a longtime member of Opportunity Presbyterian Church where he had been an elder and a deacon.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 11:00 AM, at Opportunity Presbyterian Church.
