Gonzaga Prep’s girls basketball team wins state championship in OT
TACOMA, Wash. — Otiona Gildon scored 17 points and Laura Stockton added 13 to help Gonzaga Prep beat Inglemoor 57-52 in double overtime for its second straight Class 4A girls state title and 50th consecutive win on Saturday night at the Tacoma Dome.
Oona Harrington scored four of her 10 points for Gonzaga Prep (27-0) in the second overtime as the Bullpups outscored Inglemoor 8-3.
Gildon, who also had 11 rebounds, scored off an assist from Stockton to tie at 49 with 26 seconds left to send the game into a second overtime. Stockton, the daughter of former NBA star John Stockton, finished with six assists.
Deja Strother, a 6-foor-5 senior, had 22 points and eight rebounds to lead Inglemoor (25-2), which rallied from a 14-point first-half deficit to take a brief lead late in the fourth quarter. Gonzaga Prep went scoreless in the final quarter before Stockton hit a jumper with 37 seconds left to send the game into the first overtime tied at 45-45.
Alex Hagen had 16 points for Inglemoor, the Kenmore school’s first title-game appearance.
Kennedy Nicholas scored on a drive to give Inglemoor its first lead of the game at 45-43 with 2:11 remaining in regulation.
