Obituary: San Nicolas, Adelina Torrijos (Del, Delay)

Age 90

SAN NICOLAS, Adelina Torrijos (Del, Delay) Entered into eternal rest on February 28, 2015 in Spokane, WA.

Adelina Verzosa Torrijos was born November 9, 1924 in Bangued, Abra in the Philippines to Bernardino Chan Torrijos and Felicita Verzosa.

She completed High School at Colegio del Sagrado Corazon.

She graduated from University of Santo Tomas, Summa Cum Laude, with a B.S.

in Pharmacy.

She earned an M.S.

in Botany at Oklahoma State University.

Del was a Phi Kappa Phi.

At OSU she met her husband, Jose Sablan San Nicolas, from Guam.

They married December 24, 1955 in San Diego, CA.

They worked and raised their family on Guam.

During her career Del served as a pharmacist for Moylan’s, the Catholic Medical Center, and as General Manager/Pharmacist of the Island Drugs stores.

Professionally she served as President of Guam Pharmacists Association.

A woman devoted to her faith, she belonged to the Legion of Mary and the Cursillos.

She was an active member of Nuestra Senora de las Aguas Catholic Church in Mongmong, Guam.

Del and Jose came to live in Spokane after retirement to be close to their children.

They were members of St. Anthony Catholic Church and enjoyed participating in the Church’s Bible and Faith sharing group.

Del loved to play the piano.

She entertained with music pieces she had since she was a young girl-Love and Devotion, Maiden’s Prayer.

A passionate gardener, she grew orchids and tropical fruit plants on Guam.

She grew roses, irises, fruit trees, and grapes in Spokane.

Highlights in Del’s life were feeding her family and going on trips with them.

She also loved singing, dancing, and playing cards and games with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Del was a fierce competitor at her favorite game of Scrabble.

In Del’s realm of Scrabble games, few left victorious.

She was the queen of uncommon two and three letter words.

She also enjoyed playing Bunco with friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Jose, parents, sister Nenita, brother Bernardino, and great-granddaughter Angelina DeCaro.

Del is survived by her four children Anne Marie (Frank) DeCaro, Adele Fe (Harold) Sykes, Azelle (Mark) DeForrest, Joel (Jennifer) San Nicolas.

She is survived by her grandchildren Dominic (Denise) DeCaro, Nicholas DeCaro (the late Jessica Alvarado), Nicholas Roberg, Jessica Roberg, and Joelle San Nicolas.

She is survived by great-grandchildren Brandon, Olivia, Angelo, Lucia and Mia DeCaro, and Jaidyn Adelina Boddie.

Additionally, she is survived by her brother Lamberto Torrijos and family in the Philippines.

Vigil and Rosary will be held 7 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2015 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 2320 N. Cedar St. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2015 at St. Anthony Catholic Church.

After a lunch reception, interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery (northern gravesite), 7200 N. Wall St.
