Obituary: Buckley, Valerie Jean
Age 57
Valerie attended high school at Holy Names Academy through her junior year, graduating from Gonzaga Prep in 1976.
She went right to work after that, first at Puget Power in Bellevue, WA and then on to a long and fulfilling career with Kidder Peabody, a securities firm, where she rose from the mail room in Spokane to compliance officer in the heart of the financial district in San Francisco.
After Kidder Peabody, Val met and married the love of her life Jeff Charnely on July 28, 2000 in St. Paul, MN.
They lived happily in Minnesota and together ran a successful high end appliance repair business.
Val kept the books and was for all intents and purposes the chief operating officer, bringing her immense energy, and love and skill of organization to every aspect of the business, to its great benefit.
She worked simultaneously as a flight attendant for Northwest Airlines.
During her nearly ten years in Minnesota, Val showered love and care on her husband, two step sons and her Chihuahua, Miss Nina, who was often seen in her arms or on her lap.
And in this busy world, Val never forgot to send a birthday card to everyone in her life.
Val fought bravely against cancer for four years, succumbing eventually to it on Friday, June 19, 2015 at Hospice House of Spokane South, a place of physical beauty and Grace, full of loving staff and volunteers, surrounded and supported by family and friends.
Val was very close to and grateful for her physicians, doctors Thumma, Holbert, Fairbanks and Tess.
She is survived by her mother Barbara, sisters Linda, Molly and Olivia and brother Michael.
A Rosary will be held Friday, June 26, 2015 at 7:00 PM at Hennessey Funeral Home located at 2203 North Division, Spokane, WA 99207.
