Obituary: Kuttler, Helen Louise

Age 90

KUTTLER, Helen Louise (Age 90) Helen passed away June 2, 2015 in Spokane.

She was born in Spangle, WA on February 3, 1925 to George and Beulah Sievers and grew up on the family farm a few miles outside of Spangle.

After attending the Freeman School, a one room school until the sixth grade, she graduated from Spangle High School in June, 1942.

With the United States at war, Helen moved to Spokane to attend secretarial courses at Northwestern Business School.

After completing the studies at Northwestern, Helen worked at Galena Air Depot, which later became known as Fairchild Air Force Base.

In December 1945, Helen married Charles Post.

Five years later they were divorced.

While working as a candy striper, switchboard operator in the office at Deaconess Hospital, Helen met Donald Kuttler.

They were married in June, 1950 and shared sixty-four years together.

In 1951, Don and Helen with their two daughters moved to Chile, South America where Don worked for the Chile Exploration Company, a subsidiary of the Anaconda Copper Company.

They remained in Chile for three years.

In 1961, Helen started working at American Sign and Indicator Corporation as a payroll administrator and finally to supervisor of accounts receivable and payable.

Helen remained at American Sign until her retirement in July, 1987.

The family enjoyed many years vacationing on the Oregon Coast and later at the family summer home built on the Pend Oreille River.

After retirement Helen and Don enjoyed their travels throughout the United States and Europe.

Helen enjoyed times spent with family, sewing, gardening, square dancing and the church.

Helen is survived by her husband Don, daughters Karen (William, Sr.) Schweiter, Vicki (Steven) Winders and Debra (William) Knudson.

She is also survived by six grandchildren: William Schweiter, Jr., Kenneth Beckman, Robert Beckman, Kimberly Schweiter, Kaitlin Knudson and Dane Knudson.

She is also survived by two great-grandchildren and her sister Velma Rasmussen of Spangle.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Shirley Dale of Rosalia and brother-in-law Howard Rasmussen.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to your favorite charity.

A memorial in celebration of Helen’s life will be held at the Thornhill Valley Funeral Chapel, 1400 South Pines on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 10:00 a.m.
