Two serious car accidents leave one dead

Spokane Police responded to two serious car accidents overnight that left roads closed for hours. A single car crash was reported near Sunset Avenue and Government Way at 12:45 a.m. today. A power pole was damaged in the crash. The driver was declared dead at the scene, according to the Spokane Police Department. The person’s identity will be released by the Spokane County Medical Examiner after an autopsy has been completed. A car hit a pedestrian near Nevada Street and Queen Avenue about two hours later. The pedestrian’s injuries were believed to be life threatening, but the person’s condition was upgraded at the hospital. The driver of the car called 911 for help and remained on the scene, police said. The crash is under investigation.
