Obituary: Worden, Katharina (Deutsch) “Katie”

Age 80

WORDEN, Katharina (Deutsch) “Katie” (Age 80) Katharina Worden, born November 25, 1934 in Speyer, Ukraine, passed away on July 26, 2015 at Hospice of Spokane.

She is survived by her daughter Margaret (Meg) and favorite son-in-law Ken Trambitas; sister Bernadette (Valentin) Herzog; grandchildren: Kathryn, Brittany, and Nichole Trambitas; great-grandchildren: Brooklyn, Aziazah, and Kyan; sister-in-law Carol Lynn Deutsch; nieces and nephews: Kathy (Baumstark) Zaring, Mary (Baumstark) McGonigle, Victor Baumstark, Peter Baumstark, Gretchen (Deutsch) Rock, Joseph Deutsch, Matthew Deutsch; cousins Celeste (Daratha) Smith, Gabe Daratha, Kathy (Daratha) Kirkinburg, Michael Hildt, and Rich Aspenleiter (also her godson); son Michael Worden.

Katie immigrated to North Dakota from Germany in 1951 with her mother (Margaret), sister (Bernadette) and brother (Adam).

She then moved to Spokane, WA in 1953 and married Virgil Worden June 21, 1956.

She was a member of the Concordia Choir (since 1953), German American Society (since 1956), and belonged to numerous bridge and card groups.

She loved to travel and experience different cultures and cuisines.

In her last days, she was able to visit with many of her family members and friends.

She greatly appreciated all the hospital visits and phone calls.

Shortly before Katie passed away she said, “Time to go everyone is calling me”.

“In case I’m not here anymore, I’ll be here in your spirit”.

Katie, named after the saint Katharina, was preceded in death by her parents Josef and Margaret (Stockert) Deutsch; husband Virgil; son Mark D. Worden; great-granddaughter Zion Zones; brothers Jacob, Josef, Matteus, and Adam; sisters Franziska and Magdalena; aunt Angelina (Stockert) Daratha; and brother-in-law Pete Baumstark.

There will be a visitation on Wednesday, July 29, 2015, from 9:00am until 5:00pm, at Hennessey Funeral Home and Crematory.

A Celebration of life will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2015, at 11:00am, at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church.
