Obituary: Williams, Jean Caroline

Age 97

WILLIAMS, Jean Caroline (Age 97) Jean Caroline Williams (Becker) was born December 7, 1917 in Luseland, Saskatchewan, Canada.

She was the second eldest “Becker Sister” born to Gustav Becker and Jean McKenzie.

Sisters Margret Affleck and Leila Flatow precede her in death.

She is survived by her youngest sister, Elizabeth Porter; daughter, Carol Jean Becker; granddaughters Shanda Wayne and Nicole Gray; great-grandsons, Kody Kolassa and Jesse Kolassa; and many nieces and nephews.

Jean graduated the St. Paul’s Hospital School of Nursing in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada in 1941; she later went on to attend the University of Washington School of Nursing to achieve a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1960.

Jean proudly served the public school system for the majority of her nursing career.

Close to Jean’s heart was the Canadian prairie, her Scottish heritage, being a sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and of course her cherished dog, Teenie Weenie.

As a woman of great intellect, she was an avid reader and follower of politics; every morning started with the daily paper, along with her tea, toast, and jam.

She could often be found sitting on the dining room floor, warmed by the heater, with the newspaper, various article clippings, quotes, the daily crossword, and Teenie by her side.

Fiercely independent, Jean maintained her home in North Spokane for nearly 60 years.

Active until the very end, she participated fully in the lives of those she loved; enjoying many memorable trips with her family and friends, and watching her grandsons play hockey.

She was their #1 fan and never missed a game!

She will be remembered as a mentor, best friend, loving mother, dear sister, and Angel on Earth.

We will see you on the next great adventure our beloved Jean!

The family gathered for a private memorial and celebration of life at Fairmount Memorial Park.
