Obituary: Gillis, Ruth Leona (Lobe)

Age 97

GILLIS, Ruth Leona (Lobe) (Age 97) Ruth Leona (Lobe) Gillis, passed away peacefully and left this life to go home to be with our Lord and Savior on January 22, 2015 at the Life Car Center in Ritzville.

Ruth was born on May 2nd, 1917 to John and Lydia Lobe of Odessa Washington.

Ruth graduated from Washtucna High School in 1937.

The following year she married Vernon E. Gillis in November.

They had two children a son and daughter and celebrated fifty years of marriage.

For nearly a century as a native of Washington, Ruth lived in Pullman, Walla Walla, Okanagan, Spokane, Rosaila and Washtucna.

She was a “farmers wife” who enjoyed cross stitch, embroidering, cooking/baking and socializing.

Ruth was active in her community and was a member of the Washtucna Community Church, Christian Women’s Fellowship, Rimrock Grange, BVD’s and Progressive Club.

Her greatest love and joy besides her husband, were her family which consisted of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter, born in September 2014.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lydia Lobe; two sisters: Edna Dammel, Esther Gust; three brothers, Otto, Lewis, and Everett Lobe; husband Vern and son Jerry.

She is survived by her brother Gene Lobe of Seabeck; daughter Kay Trainer of Kennewick; grandchildren: Zackary Trainer of Tacoma, Gaven Trainer of St. Helens Oregon, Lacey Unseth of Pasco and Chance Trainer of Washtucna; great-grandchildren: Jessica, Erik, Liam, Quinn, Dallaney, Emsley, Izaak, Addison, Elliott, and great-great-granddaughter Emilia.

She is also survived by numerous other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday January 29th from 12:00-5:00pm at the Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville.

Funeral will be Friday, January 30th, 11:00am at the Washtucna Community Church followed by a graveside service.

A Celebration of Ruth’s Life and a time of sharing memories will immediately follow.
