Obituary: Atwood, Robert James

Age 86

ATWOOD, Robert James (Age 86) Passed away January 17, 2015 in Spokane, WA.

He was born on March 2, 1928 in Deer Park, WA to John and Florence Atwood, and was raised in Springdale, WA.

Robert graduated from Springdale High School in 1945.

He worked for the Bureau of Reclamation in Othello, WA, Washington Water Power at Long Lake, WA before settling into his career as a Molder with Alumax and then Metallic Arts until his retirement in 1990 for a combined total of 40 years.

Robert was involved with the Valley Eagles, a Grange Member, 4-H Leader, and President of Molders Union Local #338.

Robert was also a proud member of Spokane County Fire District 9 where he served as a Volunteer Firefighter, Lt. and member of the Fire Investigation Task Force.

He was a charter member of Station 96 and served the District for 26 years.

Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing, and most important, spending time with family.

Robert is survived by his wife Merilyn of 64 years; five children: Mike (Dani) Atwood, Cheri (Jim) Glore, Gary (Nancy) Atwood, Colleen (Jeff) Borjessan, and Jay (DeAnn) Atwood; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The Family would like to sincerely thank Spokane County Fire District 9, Spokane City Fire, American Medical Response, Medstar, Deaconess Hospital ER and ICU Staff, and Wendy from Gentiva for all of the care and compassion shown to Robert and the family.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Parish, 4521 N Arden Rd, Otis Orchards, WA.

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to St. Joseph Parish.
