Hired The Jacksonville Jaguars hired former Washington State assistant Kelly Skipper as running backs coach on Tuesday and parted ways with Terry Richardson. Skipper spent the previous eight seasons with the Raiders. Skipper spent time at WSU (2003-06), UCLA (1998-2002) and at his alma mater, Fresno State (1989-97).

Retired One of the greatest goaltenders in NHL history, Martin Brodeur is retiring and will join the St. Louis Blues in a management role. The 42-year-old Brodeur wrapped up a 22-year career with St. Louis after signing as a free agent on Dec. 2. He was 3-3 and his final victory was a 3-0 shutout over Colorado on Dec. 29.

Agreed The San Francisco Giants and shortstop Brandon Crawford have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract for $3,175,000, a raise from the $560,000 he earned last season when he helped the Giants win their second World Series title in his third season as the starting shortstop.

• Kansas City and outfielder Jarrod Dyson, who is expected to be the Royals’ fourth outfielder, avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract for $1,225,000.

Promoted Indianapolis Colts coach Chuck Pagano promoted Rob Chudzinski to associate head coach. Chudzinski was hired last year as a special assistant after one season as Cleveland’s head coach.

Traded The Texas Rangers have acquired right-hander Anthony Ranaudo from the Boston Red Sox for left-hander Robbie Ross. Texas got the 6-foot-7 right-hander who didn’t sign after being picked by the Rangers out of a New Jersey high school in the 2007 draft.

Finalized The Marlins have finalized their one-year, $2 million contract with Ichiro Suzuki. The 41-year-old Suzuki is a 10-time All-Star and 10-time Gold Glove winner. He hit .284 and stole 15 bases for the Yankees last season.
