Boys basketball: Streaking Colfax ends Liberty’s long run

Kasey Johnson scored 12 of his game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter and Colfax stretched its winning streak to 13 games with a 53-49 come-from-behind win over Liberty in a Northeast 2B League game Tuesday night in Colfax.

Liberty led by 12 points after three quarters, but couldn’t hold off the hard-charging Bulldogs (16-2, 11-1).

Colfax made 9 of 11 free throws in the fourth and outscored the Lancers 25-9. Johnson hit a 3-pointer with 3 minutes left that gave the Bulldogs a four-point advantage, and Colfax closed the game out from the free-throw line.

Johnson also pulled down eight rebounds and Mark Webber added 14 points for the Bulldogs, who snapped Liberty’s 12-game winning streak.

Clay Fleming tallied a team-high 16 points for Liberty (17-2, 12-1), Keith Dumaw had 13 and Match Burnham chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds.

Davenport 68, Springdale 60: Cameron Umble scored 21 points and Austin Zeller added 18 as the Gorillas (8-10, 5-8) topped the visiting Chargers (8-10, 5-8). Zeller scored eight points during Davenport’s 17-8 third-quarter run. Chandler Carr scored 15 of his team-high 17 points in the first half for Springdale.

Northwest Christian 60, Wilbur-Creston 36: David Olds scored 24 points and Ryan Ricks added nine points and nine assists as the Crusaders (13-5, 10-3) routed the visiting Wildcats (12-6, 7-6). Colton Magers led Wilbur-Creston with 13 points.

Reardan 64, Kettle Falls 42: The Indians (9-9, 6-7) hit eight 3-pointers and used an 18-6 second-quarter run to get past the visiting Bulldogs (1-17, 0-13). Brandon Reuben scored 21 points and Wyatt Thurman added 16, including four 3s, for Reardan. Kettle Falls’ Cole Wren tallied a team-best 18 points.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 44, Tekoa-Rosalia 28: Cort Ruzicka scored 11 points and the Broncos (12-6, 7-5) held the Timberwolves (1-17, 1-12) scoreless in the second quarter in a win in Rosalia. Tekoa-Rosalia’s Dillon Jacobs tallied a team-high 10 points.

Great Northern

Pullman 58, East Valley 50: Tim Pendry and Jake Cillay scored 16 points apiece and the Greyhounds (14-3, 7-2) opened the game on a 23-8 run and beat the host Knights (5-12, 2-7). Jeremiah Hillard led East Valley with 16 points.

Clarkston 54, Cheney 35: Trevon Allen scored 17 of his game-high 20 points in the first half and the Bantams (17-1, 8-1) defeated the host Blackhawks (4-13, 0-9). Cheney’s Riley Jones tallied a team-high 14 points.

Northeast A

Riverside 57, Freeman 55: Tyler Axtell led three players in double figures with 17 points and added six assists as the Rams (14-2, 9-1) erased an early 12-point deficit and edged the visiting Scotties (7-9, 5-5). Riverside’s Jesse Anselm hit a 3-pointer with 20 seconds left that put the Rams ahead by four. Kevin Huggins added 16 points and 10 rebounds for Riverside. He made 8 of 10 shots from the floor. Freeman’s Jack Pauckert scored 18 points.

Lakeside 72, Newport 53: Ryan Quigley scored 23 points and the Eagles (13-3, 8-2) surged in the second quarter to get past the Grizzlies (9-7, 4-6) in Nine Mile Falls. Spencer Reynolds added 16 points and Cameron Gay chipped in 13 points, six rebounds and six steals for Lakeside. Newport’s Kyler Zorica tallied a game-high 25 points.

Medical Lake 63, Deer Park 43: Tellas Johnson scored 17 points and the Cardinals (12-4, 8-2) took advantage of the cold-shooting Stags (6-10, 4-6) in a win in Deer Park. Dom Harvey-Mitchell added 10 points for Medical Lake, which won the rebounding battle 36-20 and limited Deer Park to 24 percent shooting from the field. Nate Guske and Carter Countryman scored 15 points apiece for the Stags.

Colville 48, Chewelah 37: Sam Artzis hit 6 of 9 3-pointers and scored a game-high 24 points to guide the Indians (2-13, 2-8) past the Cougars (1-15, 0-10) in Colville. The Indians’ Jack Hines added nine points, including six in the first quarter. Chewelah’s Eli Hubert tallied a team-high 10 points.

Southeast 1B

Garfield-Palouse 69, Oakesdale 29: Tyler Thurman poured in 27 points and grabbed six rebounds as the Vikings (14-1, 9-1) opened the game on a 24-4 run and eased past the visiting Nighthawks (3-12, 1-8). Matt Holbrook added 15 points for Garfield-Palouse, which forced 35 turnovers. Oakesdale’s Parker Perry tallied a team-best nine points.

Nonleague

Coeur d’Alene 64, Lakeland 47: Colby Daniels scored 15 points and Tony Naccarato added eight points, nine rebounds and five blocks to guide the Vikings (10-5) past the visiting Hawks (10-5). Lakeland’s Tyrel Derrick led all scorers with 21 points.

Post Falls 86, Moscow 33: The Trojans (16-1) ripped off a 34-0 run in their easy win over the host Bears. Post Falls’ Max McCullough scored 15 points and Dalton Thompson and Zach Hillman each added 13. Moscow’s Jack Akey tallied a team-high 13 points.

Selkirk 67, Clark Fork 38: Cole Dawson scored 14 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to guide the Rangers (9-6) to a rout of the Wampus Cats in Ione. Jacob Couch also scored 14 points for Selkirk, which outscored Clark Fork 31-16 in the second half. The Wampus Cats’ Brandan Bowen tallied a game-high 15 points.

Kellogg 60, Wallace 49: Ryan Martin scored 19 points and Gus Colburn added 16 points, six rebounds and six assists as the Wildcats (10-3) topped the visiting Miners (5-5).

Wallace’s Brady Brantley tallied a game-high 21 points.
