Davis, Felix shine for Cougars

Washington State’s Kiana Davis followed up her triple-jump victory with a high-jump win and Kristine Felix set a meet record in the pole vault Saturday at the 13th annual Washington State University Open indoor track and field meet in Pullman.

Davis, who won the triple jump on Friday, claimed the high jump by reaching a personal-best height of 5 feet, 7 1/4 inches. WSU’s Audrey Ketcham was second (5-5 1/4) and Lateah Holmes was third (5-5 1/4).

Felix cleared 13-11 3/4 in the pole vault, a personal record and second best in school history.

Individual wins by Daniel Zmuda (60-meter hurdles), Michael Williams (3,000 meters), Austin Sordorff (pole vault) and Matt Wardell (shot put) highlighted the WSU men’s showing.

Prep wrestling

North Central and Shadle Park both went 3-0 at the Dream Duals at East Valley. The winner will be decided by a dual meet on Wednesday.

East Valley and Freeman also claimed team titles. The Knights won the 2A division with wins over Anacortes, Othello and Port Angeles.

The Scotties were the A division champions after topping Royal, Granger and Chelan.

College wrestling

North Idaho edged Clackamas 21-16 in a dual at Clackamas Community College.

Michael Nguyen (125 pounds), Bryce Weatherston (141), Dajour Reece (165), Cruz Del Angel (184) and Taylor Kornoely (285) won their matches for NIC.

Junior hockey

Tyler Fyfe’s hat trick lifted the Nelson Leafs (23-13-3-1-4) to a 5-3 KIJHL win over the Spokane Braves at Eagles Ice-A-Rena.

Sean Collins, Kurtis Redding and Taylor Everhart scored for Spokane (22-19-0-0-4).

Figure skating

Cheyenne King led the showing by four members of the Lilac City Figure Skating Club at the Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships this week in Greensboro, North Carolina.

King, 13, a seventh-grader at Mountainside Middle School in the Mead district, placed ninth out of 12 skaters in Intermediate Ladies.

Cody Lithco, a 2011 North Central graduate, and partner Ashlyn Gaughan of Colorado, finished 15th out of 17 teams in Senior Dance.

And Emily Viehouser, 13, a home-schooled seventh grader, and Collin Woodall-Williams, 14, a home-schooled eighth grader, were 13th in the 13-team Juvenile Dance event.
