Obituary: Rodgers-Cross, Sandra

RODGERS-CROSS, Sandra Sandra “Sandy” Thompson Rodgers-Cross passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 11, 2014 and was lovingly awakened by Jesus -” her lifelong friend.

Sandy was born in Spokane on January 24, 1942.

She attended Lewis and Clark High School and Washington State University before embarking upon a life’s journey that would take her to the Seattle area and eventually to Jalisco, Mexico.

Sandy is survived by her husband, Daniel Cross; brother, Craig (Chris) Thompson; children Thomas (Miok) Scharpenberg, Teri (Michael) Rogers, Lori (James) Tobin and Jon (Christine) Scharpenberg; “daughters” Michelle (Michael) DuCharm, Jennifer (Brian) Foote and Brandy (Gene) Chandler.

She was blessed with grandchildren Joshua (Jessica) Sweeney, Heather (Shawn) Stearns, Kristy Scharpenberg, Jeremy Scharpenberg, Loren Endsley, Jessica Tobin, Marisa Rogers, Alexandra Tobin, Julia Tobin, Mikaela Rogers, Taylor Odom, Alex Scharpenberg, Jordan Scharpenberg, Meghan Scharpenberg, Sawyer DuCharm, Delaney DuCharm, Peter Foote, Margaret Foote and Camden Chandler.

She was doubly blessed with great-grandchildren Blake Wolf, Kade Stearns, Parker Stearns and Preston Sweeney.

She also had an “adopted” god-daughter in Mexico, Cenia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Beverly Thompson, and husband, James Del Rodgers.

Sandy was a talented woman who worked hard her entire life, but her first and foremost priority was providing for her children.

After marrying Dan Cross and relocating to Mexico, Sandy, in typical fashion, never truly “retired” and became very involved with Love in Action, an orphanage in Jalisco, where she volunteered and helped the children of her newly adopted town.

She found a great satisfaction by giving of herself and became a mother and grandmother figure to all she met.

Sandy understood that the true measure of wealth is relationships and she was a millionaire by virtue of her love of family and friends.

Her greatest joy was helping others and providing unconditional love.

Her family was never defined by blood but through love.

Never too grown-up for fun, she is remembered for snow angels, cart wheeling down hills and water fights.

Her faith and love of Jesus Christ was evident in every situation.

She traveled extensively to see her family, which was spread over the United States.

She never failed to provide wisdom and compassion to all she mentored.

She will be dearly missed.

A Celebration of Sandy’s life will be held on January 24th at the Quality Inn Suites on Argonne at 5:00 o’clock.

Her family and friends are invited to stop in and remember this amazing woman.
