Obituary: Geibel, Joy Rizor

Age 77

GEIBEL, Joy Rizor Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, entered into rest with our Heavenly Father on January 15th, 2015.

Loved by all, she will be dearly missed by all those blessed enough to be touched by her life.

Joy was born on January 10th, 1938 to Robert L & Inez K Rizor in Spokane, WA, where she was a lifelong resident.

She attended St. Paschal’s Elementary School and graduated from West Valley High School in 1956.

In 1958, during nursing school, she met the love of her life, Paul J. Geibel III.

She was the maid of honor and he was the best man at his cousins’ wedding.

They married on October 3rd, 1959, forgoing completion of her nursing program.

She worked as an EKG technician at Sacred Heart Medical Center for many years before returning to nursing school in the mid 1980’s.

In 1989 she completed the nursing degree that she had started so many years before.

She continued to work at Sacred Heart until her retirement in 2004.

Joy enjoyed traveling and spending hours in her garden working with her flowers.

In 1990, she found another love in her life, quilting.

Over the next 25 years she crafted dozens of quilts and other pieces; in each one, she poured the love she had for her family and friends.

While she has gone, they remain as a lasting remembrance of the importance her husband and family played in her life.

Family was the most important thing to her, and her greatest work of art was the family that she wove together.

She was the thread that sewed it all together.

Joy was preceded in death by her mother Inez; father Robert; sister Inez; brothers, George and Edward.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Paul; daughters Ramona Hrusa (Jay) and Michelle Harlander (Dale); sons Paul Geibel lV (fiance Kristen), Ken Geibel (Denelle) and Kevin Geibel (Christi); 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Rosary and Services will be held at Mary Queen Catholic Church, 3423 E. Carlisle, Spokane WA, where she was a parishioner for over 50 years.

Rosary will be held Friday, January 23, 2015 at 7:00pm, funeral services on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 10:00 am.

Donations in her name may be made to Mary Queen Catholic Parrish or to Hospice of Spokane.
