Love lifts Whitworth over Pacific

Kenny Love hit 12 of 13 free throws and scored 25 points to guide the Whitworth men’s basketball team to a 79-66 Northwest Conference victory over Pacific (6-8, 1-4) Friday night in Forest Grove, Oregon.

Whitworth’s Derek Isaak had 16 points and Ekow Nottinson-Nyaaku added 12 off the bench – both career highs.

The Pirates (12-2, 5-0) play at George Fox today.

CC Spokane 74, Treasure Valley 70: Race Martin had 23 points and 10 rebounds and the Sasquatch (11-6, 1-1) fended off the Chukars’ second-half rally and beat Treasure Valley (4-10, 0-2) in a Northwest Athletic Conference game at Spokane Falls Community College. Jake Love added 15 points and seven rebounds and Dean Richey chipped in 12 points, eight boards and five assists for CCS.

Track and field

Washington State sophomore Alissa Brooks-Johnson took second place in the pentathlon to lead the Cougar women at the Ed Jacoby Invitational and Multis meet in Nampa, Idaho.

Brooks-Johnson scored 3,573 points, just under her personal-best of 3,633, set last year.

WSU’s Dino Dodig is in second place in the men’s heptathlon going into today’s events.
