Age 96
Passed away Saturday, January 10, 2015 in Spokane.
Marge was born October 7, 1918 in Butte, Montana, to Ann and Jim O’Donnell.
Her brother John preceded her in death in 2010.
Marge attended Girls Central High School and Butte Business School.
After graduation she worked for the Texaco Company in Butte.
In 1948 she married John (Harry) Shields and they settled in Butte to raise their three children.
After Harry’s death in 1961, Marge returned to work in the Data Processing office of the Anaconda Mining Company where she worked until her retirement in 1983.
During her retirement Marge traveled frequently, making regular visits to Washington, Oregon and Southern California.
She also became an avid fan of the Utah Jazz.
In 1999 Marge left Butte for Spokane to be closer to her daughter and family.
Marge is survived by her daughter Mary Ann and husband Steve Stockton of Spokane, her son Jim Shields and wife Julie of Dana Point, CA, and her son John Shields and his wife Deanna of Portland, OR, and her grandchildren: John and Katie Shields, Steve, Shawn and Riley Stockton, and Anne and Kieran Shields.
The family would like to express its deep gratitude to the caregivers and owners at Fairview Assisted Living and Horizon Hospice for their kindness, care, and compassion.
A funeral mass in her honor will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Friday, January 16 at 11 AM.
Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Butte, MT later this summer.
