Grippi disrespects SEC, Alabama

The next best thing for the NCAA would be a requirement that universities have at least 50 percent of their players from that state. The University of Oregon has 49 California players and only 22 from Oregon (18 percent). EWU and Montana have local area talent.

Mr. Grippi took cheap shots at the SEC and Alabama.  Alabama “Couldn’t keep up with a team playing a third string quarterback.”  Alabama lost by 7 points, with two starting linebackers, a starting safety, and first-string running back all injured. It was a close game.

Did he notice that the SEC commissioner called Oregon to congratulate their team? That’s sportsmanship. I guess we can throw out all the record books over the last 66 years. Sorry Alabama, Notre Dame, and Nebraska.  Mr. Grippi desires to wipe out collegiate football history for people who loved most importantly the players and the coaches.

I lived in Eugene for 5 years. I respected Oregon’s coach Rich Brooks, who also moved on to the SEC at Kentucky.  I am an Alabama fan, grew up with Bear Bryant.  It was a wonderful time in sports history.

I think Mr. Grippi needs to be more respectful of all schools and conferences.  His article was not. It was myopic at best.

Shame on those headline writers

I was eager to read in the paper about the Oregon-Florida State football game played on New Year’s day.

However, I was a little confused when I read The Spokesman-Review headline “Ducks soup things up, rout ’Noles.”

It was then that I realized the paper was using the word Noles instead of Seminoles. I guess the newspaper thinks the term Noles is more politically correct. I wonder what the Florida State student body and football team think about this?

Is the liberal press going to start changing other names of school mascots? Do other Indian tribes want their names changed?

I always believed Indians were a proud people who proclaimed this pride by the names of their tribes.
