Obituary: Davis, Mark C.

Age 84

DAVIS, Mark C. (Age 84) Passed away peacefully in his sleep December 18, 2014, at the age of 84.

He was born March 20, 1930 to Doris Davis.

Two brothers, Bud and Neil, and a sister, Shirley, greeted him.

He grew up in Spokane and Seattle.

He graduated from West Valley High School in 1949.

He joined the Air National Guard’s 116th squadron at Felts Field Airport.

While in college studying to be a teacher, he was called to duty during the Korean War.

He took his wife, Bertie Joanne, to England, where he was stationed.

After the war he finished his education at Eastern Washington University.

He was hired to teach fifth grade at Seth Woodard Elementary school in the West Valley School district, and went on to be a principal at Pasadena Park Elementary and Millwood Elementary.

He retired from West Valley after 25 years in public education.

He and Bertie Jo had a son, Galen, and a daughter, Anne Louise, who gave him three grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.

Galen and his wife, Susan, live in Arlington, Washington.

Anne lives in Spokane Valley with her husband, Bill.

Bertie Jo passed away in 1993.

He was not a bachelor for long, and in 1999 he married Janice Kalstad.

She surrounded him with a large, loving second family starting with three daughters, Kim and Brad Hutchinson, Abby and Ralph Oscarson, and Lu and Mike Jensen, including five grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

He belonged to the Lilac City Gold Wing Motorcycle Club, and enjoyed traveling all over the Northwest with his motorcycle friends..

He loved to talk and eat donuts with his best buddies at Mike’s Donuts on east Sprague.

And, he loved to eat breakfast at Denny’s with Don Lee, Marvin Smith and Frank Koth, all former educators.

Mark found the Lord at Redeemer Lutheran Church with the help of Pastor Dave, and Pastor Marty.

He will be truly missed by all those who knew him, not the least are the thousands of school children who were touched by his kindness.

There will be a memorial service at Redeemer Lutheran Church, January 31st, 2015.
