PayPal co-founder Musk, wife split for second time
When Elon Musk split up with his wife Talulah Riley for the first time, he told the whole world.
“It was an amazing four years. I will love you forever,” the entrepreneur tweeted to the British actress in January 2012. “You will make someone very happy one day.” Eighteen months later, that happy person apparently was him, as they tied the knot again in July 2013.
The rekindled romance didn’t last. On Wednesday – the day many people make vows for the coming year – the couple officially broke their marital vow. Musk filed for divorce in Los Angeles County Superior Court on New Year’s Eve.
The couple said they were splitting amicably and that Musk agreed to give Riley $16 million in cash and other assets as part of a financial settlement, according to a joint statement.
Musk made a fortune co-founding PayPal and has gone on to start SpaceX and Tesla Motors. Riley appeared in “Pride & Prejudice,” “Inception” and “St. Trinians.”
The couple first wed in 2010. They didn’t have any children, but Musk has five sons from a previous marriage.
Swift’s ‘1989’ top-selling 2014 album
Taylor Swift’s blockbuster pop album “1989,” named for the year she was born, held onto the No. 1 spot in the latest edition of the Billboard 200, the trade magazine reported Wednesday, marking the album’s seventh week atop the chart.
“1989” sold 430,000 album equivalent units – a new phrase that reflects Billboard’s recent incorporation of streaming data and single-track downloads into its chart policy – in the week that ended Sunday, according to Nielsen Music. Of those units, 326,000 represent full album sales, bringing the total for Swift’s set to 3.66 million.
And that was enough for “1989” to squeak past the smash soundtrack of Disney’s “Frozen” as the biggest-selling album of 2014. Released in November 2013, “Frozen” sold 3.53 million copies this year; its overall total is 3.86 million.
