Area roundup: EWU women win 4th straight

Melissa Williams continues to record double-doubles, and her team continues to record victories.

Fresh off of earning MVP honors at last weekend’s Gator Holiday Classic, the senior recorded her fourth-straight double-double, scoring 10 points and pulling down 12 rebounds, to lead Eastern Washington to the 69-55 Big Sky Conference women’s college basketball victory over Weber State at Ogden, Utah on Thursday.

The Eagles (7-4 overall, 1-0 Big Sky Conference) used a 40-point first half in winning their fourth straight contest.

Lexie Nelson led all scorers with 16 points, as the Eagles defeated Weber State (5-6, 0-1) for the 13th consecutive time.

Idaho State 71, Idaho 50: Apiphany Woods scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and the Bengals beat the Vandals in Pocatello, Idaho.

The Bengals (6-6 overall, 1-0 Big Sky Conference) won their fourth straight using a 39-point second half to pull away from the Vandals (6-6, 0-1), who had won their last two.

Connie Ballestero led Idaho with 12 points.

Idaho State will host Eastern Washington tomorrow night.

Men’s basketball

University of Washington Huskies head coach Lorenzo Romar announced that sophomore guard Jahmel Taylor will transfer from the Pac-12 school.

Taylor played in 23 career games for the Huskies, averaging 1.3 points and 0.3 rebounds per game.

He was given a full release and can start looking for a new school immediately.
