WSU Cougars
COMING UP: Friday at Stanford, noon (Pac-12 Wash.); Sunday at California, 7 p.m.
OUTLOOK: As the only Pac-12 team to begin its season on the road, Washington State stumbled out of the gate. The Cougars clawed their way back to a 6-6 record and have seen their shooting improve markedly in recent games, but now they must return to the road to begin league play. Just one year ago Stanford coach Johnny Dawkins’ future in Palo Alto was uncertain, but an NCAA tournament run to the Sweet 16 and a heralded recruiting class changed all that. The Cardinal (8-3) have already made their mark this year with a road upset of No. 9 Texas. California (10-3) has looked formidable under first-year coach Cuonzo Martin but is riding a two-game losing streak.
