Obituary: Vaughn, Robert E.

VAUGHN, Robert E. 89 Years of Life Robert was born in 1925 in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Aaron Vaughn and Elzora Sommerlott.

He served in the US Army for 24 plus years.

He retired as a Master Sergeant and was a veteran of both World War II and Vietnam.

He was honored when he recently travelled to Washington D.C. as part of the Honor Flight.

Upon retirement from the Army, Robert fulfilled a lifelong dream of pursuing a college education.

He graduated from Eastern Washington University with a degree in business.

Subsequently, he went to work for the IRS and retired after 15 years of service.

Robert met and married the love of his life, Nao, in Japan in 1947.

They had 45 wonderful years together.

After the passing of his wife, Robert bowled on two different bowling teams, played bridge twice a week, golfed, and loved going on many different cruises.

Robert passed away on February 5, 2015 after a brief illness.

He is survived by his brother Glendale of Oak Harbor, WA; his daughters Marie (Ron) Krohn, and Shirley (Gene) Peters, both of Spokane; his grandchildren whom he loved dearly: Tony Richards of Spokane, Scott (Melody) Peters of Lake Tapps, WA, Adam Peters of Colorado Springs, CO, and Mike (Erica) Peters of Shoreline, WA; also his great-grandchildren: Tirzah, Tavius, and Madison Peters.

A Visitation at Ball & Dodd Funeral Home will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2015 between 2:00pm and 6:00pm.

A Celebration of Robert’s Life will be held on Friday, February 13, 2015 at 11:00am at Spokane Friends Church, 1612 W. Dalke Ave., Spokane, WA 99205.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spokane Friends Church.
