Hutton, Preds shut out Pens on the road

NHL: Connor Hutton stopped 21 shots to pick up his second career shutout as the visiting Nashville Predators beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-0.

Gabriel Bourque, Roman Josi, Eric Nystrom and Mike Fisher scored, giving the Predators their first regulation win in Pittsburgh in 11 years.

Hutton improved to 3-1-2 while temporarily filling in as Nashville’s No. 1 goaltender while All-Star Pekka Rinne recovers with a sprained knee that will sideline him for at least another week.

Marc-Andre Fleury made 20 saves for the Penguins but received no help from Pittsburgh’s sputtering offense.

• Steen scores twice, Blues hold on to defeat Capitals: Alexander Steen had two goals and an assist while Brian Elliot stopped 33 shots, and the streaking St. Louis Blues held on to defeat the host Washington Capitals 4-3.

Washington’s Alex Ovechkin scored twice, giving him a league-leading 31 goals. He became the fifth player in NHL history to start his career with 10 30-goal seasons.

Anthony scores 31 as Knicks rout Lakers

NBA: Carmelo Anthony scored 18 of his 31 points in the third quarter and the New York Knicks beat the Los Angeles Lakers 92-80 Sunday.

Anthony shot 13 of 25 and grabbed eight rebounds.

• Whiteside big for Heat in win over Celtics: Hassan Whiteside scored 20 points to help the visiting Miami Heat stave off Boston’s rally and snap a two-game slide with an 83-75 victory over the Celtics on Sunday.

Avery Bradley and Tyler Zeller led the Celtics with 17 points apiece.

Florida State rallies to beat No. 23 Miami

College Basketball: Montay Brandon scored 18 points on 7-of-7 shooting, and Florida State rallied from a 16-point first-half deficit to beat No. 23 Miami 55-54 in Tallahassee, Florida.

The Hurricanes’ Sheldon McClellan missed a floater in the lane as time expired.

Brandon had 12 of his points in the second half to spark the rally for Florida State.

McClellan led the Hurricanes with 13 points, and Davon Reed had 11 points and six rebounds.

• No. 6 Lady Vols beat No. 18 Mississippi State: Cierra Burdick scored a career-high 24 points with eight rebounds and six assists to help No. 6 Tennessee beat No. 18 Mississippi State 79-67 in Knoxville, Tennessee.

The Lady Vols are 36-0 against Mississippi State.

Bashaara Graves added 17 points, including nine straight during an 11-0 run early in the second half, as Tennessee won its 17th straight home game.

Victoria Vivians had 17 points to lead Mississippi State.

• TCU women use late surge to upset No. 14 Texas: Veja Hamilton scored 16 points and TCU broke a tie with seven straight points down the stretch to upset No. 14 Texas 65-59 in Fort Worth, Texas.

It was the second year in a row TCU beat Texas at home after going 0-33 against the Longhorns, who lead the series 34-2.

Texas got a season-high 22 points from Imani McGee-Stafford.
