The Dirt: Yoke’s to buy Liberty Lake grocery; Dave Smith Motors buys into Spokane Valley
Yoke’s Fresh Market plans to take over the former Haggen grocery store in Liberty Lake.
The Spokane-based Yoke’s chain placed a winning bid for the location in bankruptcy court. The deal is expected to close next week.
The Liberty Lake store at 1233 N. Liberty Lake Road was a Haggen store for only a few months after that company bought the former Safeway store and rebranded it in June.
The Haggen chain had about 146 Albertsons and Safeway stores following those two companies’ merger, as ordered by federal antitrust regulators. Haggen went from a regional chain of 18 stores to a company with 164 stores around the West, but near the end of August, it filed for bankruptcy protection and announced store closures.
Haggen closed the Liberty Lake store at the end of November.
Yoke’s has six stores in the Spokane area, Idaho stores in Kellogg and Sandpoint, and other locations in the Tri-Cities.
