Mildred Wrensky Whitten

Spokane

Mildred Wrensky Whitten celebrated her 100th birthday on Aug. 10 with a party with family and friends from Spokane and around the country at the Spokane Club. She was born Aug. 10, 1915, in Rosalia, Washington. She has lived in Eastern Washington her entire life and currently calls Spokane home.

Whitten met her husband, Ralph Whitten, in Spokane. They were married in 1939. Ralph died in 1981 after 42 years of marriage.

She worked in The Spokesman-Review circulation department from 1934-40. She then worked as the secretary at First Presbyterian Church for 22 years.

Whitten credits hard work and having many good friends with helping her live a long and healthy life. Her most memorable moment in history from the past 100 years is hearing the radio announcement of the Pearl Harbor attack.

Whitten has two sons: Terence Whitten, of Spokane, and Dennis Whitten, of Stone Mountain, Georgia. She also has six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
