Obituary: Gallaher, George

GALLAHER, George 1920 - 2015 George was born in Loon Lake, Washington and graduated from Palouse High School in 1939.

He enlisted in the Medical Corps of the U.S.

Naval Reserves in 1942.

George earned a Pharmacist’s Mate 1st class rating and served as a Petty Officer on Marine air bases in the South and Central Pacific during WWII.

After the war, George certified as a Refrigeration, Heating and Air Conditioning Technician in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

In September 1942, in Long Beach, California, George married Dorothy “Jean” Hoobler of Clarkston, Washington.

In 1948, George and Jean moved to Spokane, Washington where George had a successful 35-year career in commercial refrigeration.

During 55 years of marriage, George and Jean traveled to more than 40 countries and were active in Opportunity Presbyterian Church’s Marimates.

Recently, George enjoyed Bingo and Dominoes at the Spokane Valley Senior Center and walking at the mall.

George died peacefully at home.

He was preceded in death by Jean and his middle son, Donald.

He is survived by his sister Marjorie Bourne, his sons Ken (Irene) and Bruce (Pam) and grandchildren Amanda (Adam), Gail and Grant.

There will be a Celebration of Life at 2pm on August 22nd at Opportunity Presbyterian Church at 202 N. Pines Road in Spokane Valley.
