Obituary: Preecs, Martha Lee

Age 94

PREECS, Martha Lee Martha Lee Sandlin Preecs was born on Nov. 24, 1920 in Casper, WY.

When she was six years old, her parents’ homestead failed and the family moved to Tacoma, WA.

Martha graduated from Puyallup High School in 1938 and the University of Washington in 1943.

She married William Bert Preecs in 1942 and was happily married to Bert until his death in 2010.

She was also preceded in death by her sister, Jean Sandlin Nelson, and her brother Robert Randolph Sandlin, both of Puyallup.

Martha was a lifelong member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston MA and attended Second Church of Christ, Scientist in Spokane for many years, serving as reader, board member, and secretary.

She and her family were active members of Spokane Mountaineers, Spokane Civic Theater, and Friends of the Library.

Martha was also a long-time member of the American Association of University Women and the League of Women Voters, and canvassed her neighborhood for political candidates in her late 80s.

Martha retired from a career in the Washington State Department of Employment Security and spent many years attending Elderhostel classes with her husband, and traveling to Mexico, Canada, Great Britain, and France.

She traveled to China with her son when she was 90 years old.

She is survived by her two sons, Barton Preecs, of Walla Walla, and Dr. Gordon Preecs, Monroe, WA; her five grandchildren, Matthew Scotten, Portland, OR,; Noel Preecs, Austin TX; Sandlin Seguin, Kirkland, WA; and Kelsey Preecs, Anchorage, AK; and three great-grandchildren.
