Obituary: Gaylord, Morris L., Lt. Colonel Us Army Retired

GAYLORD, Morris L., Lt.

Colonel US Army Retired (Age 95) Born December 29, 1919, in Spokane, WA.

He attended grade schools in San Francisco, Oakland, San Diego and Spokane.

He graduated from Lewis and Clark High School and from the University of Maryland.

He enlisted in the Army in January 1942 and served in the USA, Africa, Corsica and Italy during WWII.

While in Italy he received a direct commission as a 2nd Lieutenant.

He left the Army in January 1946.

He operated an auto repair business in Spokane with Charles Peters from 1946 to 1951.

He was recalled to the Army in May 1951.

He served in the USA, Germany and Korea before retiring from the Army in 1968 as a Lt.

Colonel.

He served as Director of Central Services (computer operation) for the City of Spokane from 1970 until 1982 when he again retired.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles A.

(1930); his mother, Myrtle L. (1960); his wife Phyllis H. (1986); his long-time companion, Dolores B. Winstead; as well as his brother, Frank L. Morris and Dolores traveled the world together.

They resided, in the winter, in Naples, FL (1989-2002) and Las Vegas, NV (2002-2014).

They spent summers in Spokane and at his home on the Pend Oreille River.

Morris is survived by his daughters Sandra (Don) Weisser of Moses Lake, Catherine (Steve) Gavin of Spokane, and his son, Michael (Kay) of Winchester, VA, and step-daughter Gail Allgood of Spokane, WA.

He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
