People: Obama hits the golf course in Martha’s Vineyard

President Barack Obama spent his first full day of vacation on the Massachusetts island of Martha’s Vineyard playing golf.

Obama teed it up Saturday afternoon at Farm Neck Golf Club in Oak Bluffs with actor-comedian Larry David, businessman and Obama campaign fundraiser Robert Wolf and Cyrus Walker, a cousin of top Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett.

Obama left Washington on Friday with the first lady and daughter Sasha for a 17-day island retreat. He is scheduled to return to the White House on Aug. 23.

Ex-symphony conductor fractures hip

Former Boston Symphony conductor Seiji Ozawa has canceled three performances in Japan after fracturing his hip.

The Seiji Ozawa Matsumoto Festival said the 79-year-old conductor tumbled Aug. 1 and hurt his hip. He is undergoing three weeks of physical therapy at a hospital.

Festival organizers said Saturday that Ozawa still plans to conduct his 80th birthday concert Sept. 1, and another Sept. 6. The festival runs from Aug. 9 to Sept. 15 in the city of Matsumoto.

Lady Antebellum singer expecting

Lady Antebellum singer Charles Kelley and his wife, Cassie, are expecting their first child in February. Cassie McConnell Kelley made the announcement on her Womanista.com website.

She wrote that after years of trying to get pregnant, the couple was told they had a 1 percent chance of conceiving a child naturally. She said they were going to explore other options later this year, but discovered in June that she was pregnant. They have been married for six years.

The seven-time Grammy-winning country band is currently on its Wheels Up tour.
