Obituary: Harvey, Doris

Age 88

HARVEY, Doris (Age 88) Doris Harvey passed away peacefully August 3, 2015.

Mom was born in Peck, Idaho on April 27, 1927 to Clarence and Ella Rugg.

She grew up on the ranch in Peck, and graduated from Orofino High School in 1941.

After WW II she met a handsome recently discharged sailor who had just moved to Orofino from Los Angeles, and on May 18, 1947, Jim Harvey and Doris were married.

They soon moved to Spokane to begin their lives together.

Richard came along in 1954, followed by Leslie in 1956.

We all remember Mom as being a very outgoing person, who made friends easily and always made strangers feel welcome.

Mom was an “organizer” and could be counted upon to lead any effort, from PTA to Cub Scouts and many church activities.

She worked tirelessly, because that was the way she was raised and she passed that work ethic on to her kids.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband Jim and granddaughter Rebecca.

She is survived by her son Richard (Carol); her daughter Leslie Thistle (Matt); granddaughters, Hayley Thistle and Shaunna Baldyga (Bill); and great-grandson Taub.

We will miss mom terribly, but we take solace that she lived a good life, made a difference in countless lives over the years, and leaves behind a legacy of love, honesty and service.

We would also like to thank the loving staff at Brighton Court and Good Samaritan Village for the care they provided Mom over the recent months.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, August 14, 10:00 AM at Millwood Community Presbyterian Church.

Memorials may be made to Millwood Presbyterian Church in lieu of flowers.
