Obituary: Peterson, Bert J.
(Age 92) Passed away peacefully on April 26, 2015 at Holy Family Hospital in Spokane, WA with his family at his side.
Bert was born in Erskine, Minnesota and shortly after his birth his mother passed away.
Bert was given to a wonderful foster family where he resided through his high school years.
Bert moved out to Michigan and California for his future works.
He then moved to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho where he resided with his first wife Doris and two children David and Melba.
After Doris’s passing Bert started his Metropolitan Life insurance career.
He then moved to Spokane, WA.
On October 15, 1966, Bert married Donna Deking at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Spokane.
They were married for 48 years and have three children Todd, Tamara, and Tricia.
Bert was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He very often referred to his home as his “castle” and this is where many long remembered and happy celebrations took place with his family and friends.
He was the most amazing and supportive husband and father and his role as grandpa and papa were remarkable.
He was an active and devoted member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Spokane.
His faith was very important to him and he served his church in many ways throughout his years.
His heart was made of gold and he shared his wealth with those in need and numerous charities.
Bert is survived by his loving wife and soul-mate Donna; two sons, Todd A. Peterson and David A. Peterson; and three daughters Tamara L. Peterson, Tricia L. Gibson, and Melba D. McDonald; along with grandchildren Lindsey, Kylie, Emily, Ryan, Heather, Erik, and Garrett and great-grandchildren Londyn J, Quinn, and Noah; nephew Jim and niece Becky.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Bernice Monroe, Beulah Peterson and Lillian Fallett.
Viewing will take place from 10:00 AM to 10:50 AM Friday May 1, 2015 at Messiah Lutheran Church at 4202 N. Belt St., Spokane, WA 99205.
A funeral service will follow immediately after at 11:00 AM.
All family, friends, and loved ones are invited to a lunch following the service at Messiah.
An Interment will be after the lunch celebration at 4:30 PM at Greenwood Memorial Terrace, Spokane, WA.
The family gives special thanks to Dr. Leroy J. Byrd and Holy Family Hospital for their wonderful expertise and care.
The family asks that donations be made to Messiah Lutheran Church Endowment Fund or the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
