Obituary: Stallard, Lee G.

STALLARD, Lee G. (Age 95) Lee was born on November 5, 1918 to Laura and Willard Stallard in Flat Gap, VA. Lee passed away on September 16, 2014.

At the age of 3 months his family moved to Labam, WA.

As a boy dad helped the family by working at a dairy milking cows before and after school.

After graduating from high school dad went to work in the logging camps of Western WA.

Cutting huge trees with handsaws and axes.

He worked in these camps until he enlisted in WWII.

Dad was very proud of his military service and the fact that he was a cavalry man.

He spent his war years serving in the Pacific in the China, Burma, India Theater as a Mess Sergeant in the interior of China.

After the war he and his mother moved to Spokane where he met his future bride Idabelle from Great Falls, MT.

They soon settled in Otis Orchards where dad had a small farm, and raised their two children.

Dad was the first in the Spokane area to cross breed Arabians to Welch horses.

Dad and mom ran an egg farm for many years supplying eggs to many families and stores in the Spokane area.

In later years dad became a custom cabinet-maker running the business out of a converted chicken house.

He was well respected for his craftsmanship.

Dad was a hard worker and was always able to start a new business or profession easily.

Dad wrote and published a novel set in China during WWII.

A history buff, he was pleased to be able to visit many historical places in Europe and the United States.

Dad is survived by his son Robert (Christine) Stallard of Switzerland, daughter Martha Hill of Newman Lake WA, grandchildren Noemi and Timothy Lee Stallard of Switzerland, Seneca (Tiffany) Hill, Quentin Hill, great-grandson Grayson Lee Hill all of the Spokane Valley, and nephew Bruce Stallard Jr. of Des Moines, WA.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years Idabelle, and brother Bruce Stallard.

The family would like to thank the staff at Sullivan Park Care Center for their excellent care of Lee and the compassion and caring they bestowed upon Lee and Idabelle as well as the family.
