Area football roundup: Taylor guides Deer Park over Riverside
Deer Park picked up a Northeast A League win Friday night against a familiar opponent.
Theron Taylor racked up 194 yards and scored twice as the Stags renewed their rivalry with Riverside with a 23-0 shutout at Riverside.
As a team, Deer Park ran for 342 yards on 58 carries. The Stags didn’t attempt a pass. Garrett Wiltse added 70 yards on nine carries for Deer Park.
The Stags, who dropped down from the Great Northern League this season, fell to the Rams 21-16 in a nonleague game last year.
Deer Park’s last shutout came in a 7-0 win over Chewelah in the season-opener in 2010.
Freeman 55, Newport 0: Markus Goldbach ran for 99 yards and four touchdowns and Christian Goldbach added 46 yards and two scores as the Scotties (3-0, 1-0 NEA) overwhelmed the visiting Grizzlies (1-2, 0-1). Freeman scored four first-quarter touchdowns and led 42-0 at the half.
Lakeside 64, Chewelah 7: Cameron Gay threw for three touchdowns and Grant Perkins ran for three scores as the Eagles (3-0, 1-0) routed the Cougars (1-2, 0-1) in Nine Mile Falls. Perkins finished with 153 rushing yards. Nick Annanie added 102 yards on the ground and one touchdown and also returned a punt 42 yards for a touchdown.
Colville 50, Medical Lake 14: Colton Vining ran for 168 yards and four touchdowns on just eight carries and the Indians (3-0, 1-0) dumped the host Cardinals (1-2, 0-1). Vining also caught a touchdown pass. Tellas Johnson scored both of Medical Lake’s touchdowns.

Colfax 30, Wilbur-Creston 16: Cody Fulfs rushed for 103 yards on 20 carries and scored three touchdowns as the Bulldogs (3-0, 3-0) topped the Wildcats (1-2, 1-2) in Wilbur. Dylan Hall added 163 yards on 15 carries and returned a punt 90 yards for a touchdown. Wilbur-Creston’s Tristan Rosman threw for 243 yards and a score.
Davenport 49, Kettle Falls 24: The Gorillas (2-1, 2-1) scored 35 points in the first quarter before letting up in a win over the visiting Bulldogs (0-3, 0-3). Davenport’s Tom Wilkie ran for 153 yards and four touchdowns. Kettle Falls’ Jordan Clendennen scored twice in the fourth quarter – one on a 5-yard run and another on a 23-yard interception return.
Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 63, Tekoa-Rosalia 0: Jacob Saetre threw for three touchdowns and ran for another as the Broncos (3-0, 3-0) overwhelmed the Timberwolves (0-3, 0-3) in Tekoa. Lind-Ritzville/Sprague scored four touchdowns in the first quarter and led 42-0 at the half.
Liberty 33, Springdale 0: Tyler Haas ran for three touchdowns and the Lancers (1-2, 1-2) blanked the visiting Chargers (0-3, 0-3). Liberty’s Kyle DeGon added a 58-yard fumble return for a touchdown.
Reardan 41, Northwest Christian 7: Dan Peone ran for two touchdowns and caught another as the Indians (3-0, 3-0) routed the visiting Crusaders (2-1, 2-1). Northwest Christian’s Nathan Sander returned the opening kickoff 83 yards for a touchdown, but it was all Reardan from there.

Colton 62, LaCrosse-Washtucna 0: Carter Dahmen threw three touchdown passes – all to Lane Moore – and ran for another score as the Wildcats (3-0, 2-0) dumped the visiting Tigercats (0-3, 0-2). Dahmen threw for 218 yards and ran for 132 yards. Moore totaled 175 yards on four receptions. He also had a 40-yard interception return for a touchdown.
Nonleague
West Valley 55, Rogers 6: The Eagles (1-2) scored three defensive touchdowns and routed the visiting Pirates (0-3). Hunter Ferguson and Jace Malek returned interceptions for scores and Michael Chan had a 31-yard fumble return for another score. In addition to his pick-6, Malek ran for a 104 yards and a first-quarter touchdown.
Almira/Coulee-Hartline 44, Curlew 34: After falling behind by two touchdowns early, Dallas Isaak led the Warriors (1-2) past the host Cougars (0-3). Curlew’s Gunner Brown scored two rushing touchdowns in the first quarter to stake the Cougars to a 14-0 lead. From there, it was all ACH. Isaak scored four straight rushing touchdowns, returned a punt 44 yards for a score, and fired a 6-yard touchdown pass to Charles Hunt in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring. Isaak finished with 29 carries for 177 yards and four touchdowns.
Cusick 28, Odessa-Harrington 6: Alec Bluff ran for two scores in the fourth quarter as the Panthers (3-0) got its offense rolling late in a win over the Titans (2-1) in Harrington. Cusick led 8-6 heading into the third, then outscored Odessa-Harrington 20-0 in the fourth. The Titans’ lone score came on a 56-yard pass from Carsen Weber to Sam Schafer in the third.
Selkirk 44, Clark Fork 8: Stephen Avery scored three touchdowns – two rushing and one receiving – and the Rangers (2-0) routed the host Wampus Cats (2-2). Dominic Cain added two touchdowns, including a 99-yard interception return in the first quarter.
Inchelium 62, Columbia 0: Quentin Holford ran for four scores and also had an interception return for a touchdown as the Hornets (2-1) routed the Lions (0-3) in Hunters. Holford had three interceptions in all. Stan Sandevig added two rushing scores for Inchelium.
Republic 78, Pateros 22: Alex and Angelo Rivera combined for 307 rushing yards and six touchdowns as the Tigers (2-1) dumped the visiting Billygoats. Republic quarterback Aaron Fritts added a rushing touchdown and returned an interception 48 yards for a score.
