Obituary: Tewel, Susan
Age 64
Susan was born April 4, 1950 to James and Lavinia Tewel in Cincinnati, Ohio.
She later moved to Middletown, Ohio and graduated from Middletown High School.
She completed her undergraduate degree at Miami University in Ohio and medical school at Colorado University School of Medicine.
She specialized in Obstetrics and Gynecology and was a gifted surgeon who cared very much for her patients.
One of her greatest joys was her daughter, Rachael Coppola, who she adopted in 1985.
Susan married James Holman in 1996.
They later divorced, but remained best friends.
Susan enjoyed spending time at her cabin in Priest Lake, Idaho, her spiritual retreat where she found peace and comfort.
She found strength through her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and the love she received from her friends at First Presbyterian Church, particularly her Bible Study group.
Susan is preceded in death by her parents, James and Lavinia Tewel.
Susan is survived by her daughter, Rachael (Victor) Coppola of Brooklyn, New York; her brother, David Tewel (Janice) of Spokane; their children, Scott (Mckenzie) Tewel of Seattle, and Evan Tewel of Spokane; and her sister, Karen Mitchell, of Marshfield, Wisconsin; along with her children, David Mitchell of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Martha Desbiens (Nicholas) of Brooklyn, New York.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Margaret Shugert, Horizon Hospice of Spokane, and Evergreen Hematology-Oncology for their support and care.
The Memorial Service will be held at First Presbyterian Church at 318 S. Cedar Street, Spokane, at 11:00 am on Saturday, Sept. 20th.
A luncheon will follow, after the service.
Susan had requested any donations be made to the Lupus Foundation of America, in her name.
