Obituary: Chandler, Charles Howard “Chuck”
Age 82
Chuck was born on October 12, 1931 in Spokane, Washington, where he lived and worked his entire life.
Chuck graduated from North Central High School, the same school his father taught history at for 35 years.
After graduation from high school, Chuck enlisted in the Washington National Guard, 160th Aircraft and Warning Group based at FAFB until he was discharged in 1956.
During the Korean War, Chuck was dispatched to Ladd Air Force base in Fairbanks, Alaska which was, at that time, a territory of the US.
His profession was in the Food Brokerage field.
He spent most of his career with Kelly Clarke Food Brokers until 1985.
He then went into private business until his retirement in 1997.
In 1974, Chuck married his best friend and life-long partner, Joanne.
They enjoyed boating in the Northwest lakes and on the NW Pacific Coast.
They also had a passion for RVing where they traveled around the United States, and spent several winters in the Southwest.
Chuck and Joan were members of the Spokane Lilac Association, and they were active members in the Spokane Yacht Club for 25 years.
Chuck served as commodore for the yacht club in 1990.
For the past ten years Chuck enjoyed being a member of the Spokane Valley Senior Center.
During this time period Chuck served on the Center’s board.
He was involved in many of the activities, including starting the gardening club and building a greenhouse.
They planted flowers and vegetables so they could have a plant sale each spring to help support the center.
Some of Chuck’s happiest memories were playing cards with his many friends at the Senior Center.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 40 years, Joanne; his two sisters, Helen Chandler and Alice Mae Staeheli; his seven children, Debra Kay (Crye), Judy Lynn (Thomas), Diane Louise (Knight), Steven Charles Chandler, Timothy Charles Jennings, Kathleen Joanne (Little), and Tracy Kim (McClure).
He also has 15 grandchildren, and many, many great-grandchildren.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Edith Chandler; and his sister, Marjorie Ruppert.
Graveside services will be at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake, WA.
at 9:40 AM on Friday, September 19th; and a memorial service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in the Spokane Valley on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 1:00 PM.
A Celebration of Life will follow at the Valley Elks after the service.
