Photo: Hidden beneath the feet of the Cascades

Backpackers look down on Hidden Lake, reached by a 4.5-mile hike about 15 miles east of Marblemount in North Cascades National Park. Bob Drzymkowski and his family from Spokane camped three nights in the area, with classic Cascades climbing destinations in the background, from left to right, Eldorado, Mount Torment and Forbidden Peak. “About a half hour before this shot, we were part of a party of 12 that sat out a nasty hailstorm in the Hidden Lake Fire Lookout,” he said, noting that it’s no longer in use for fire protection but well preserved and maintained by a local hiking club.
